This dataset comprises the case note audit data submitted by the Mental Health Trusts and Health Boards that participated in the second round of the National Audit of Schizophrenia in 2013.

The audit was open to all secondary care Trusts and Health Boards in England and Wales providing secondary care to service users over 18 years of age with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, who had been in the care of that organisation for at least a year, and were being treated in the community.

The second round of audit examined the quality of care received by service users in the twelve months before the census date of 1 July 2013.

Case notes, with additional information from consultants and general practitioners, were used to gather demographics and information relating to NAS standards covering antipsychotic prescribing practice, physical health monitoring and interventions (where monitoring identified a need) and psychological therapies.

All Mental Health Trusts/Health Boards in England and Wales identified as eligible participated in the audit. Only English data are presented in this dataset, which includes data from 58 Mental Health Trusts that submitted a total of 5,095 case notes.

Sample size: Each participating Trust was requested to submit a sample of a minimum of 100 cases for the audit of practice. Please note that ‘not applicable’ responses were excluded from the analysis of questions, which may affect the number of case notes included in the analysis of individual questions.
