This accessibility statement applies to https://data.gov.uk. It does not cover other data.gov.uk subdomains (for example, environment.data.gov.uk) which have their own accessibility statements.
This website is run by the Government Digital Service (GDS). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without problems
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
Parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example:
- some data sets have broken links
- we use charts and visualisations which may present some accessibility issues, though you can download the chart data
- the data.gov.uk directory does not have a recent audit – we’ll resolve this in 2026

Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Charts do not have a text alternative, though you can download the chart data. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
Charts have hover pop-ups that cannot be dismissed. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.13 (Content on Hover or Focus).
Some data sets have broken links. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context).
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We’re working to fix content which fails to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. We’re in the process of commissioning a full external accessibility audit of the data.gov.uk website, including the data.gov.uk directory. This will help us prioritise improvements, especially where existing features fail to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard.
