The sand was firm and not well drained with shells on surface of sand quite common. Site was close to the low water mark. Low diversity with only live species of Hediste sp. (common) and algae Chaetomorpha (frequent), Plocamium (rare). Ulva and Enteromorpha sp. (rare) attatched to odd stones and shells. Hydrallmania present but may be drift. Algal dominated with Plocamium cartilagineum and Polysiphonia nigrescens; animal species included Hydrallmania falcata, Actinothoe sphyrodeta, Vesicularia spinosa, Bugula plumosa and Balanus crenatus. Metal wall with castellations. Blanket cover of Callithamnion ?tetricum from surface to 1.5m. Remaining 0.5m covered with Obelia ?dichotoma and Mytilus edulis. Mytilus concentrated on outer edges of castellation. Marked halocline at 1.5-2.0m. No other algae present. Carcinus maenus common on the wall. Littorina littorea occasional at the bottom of the wall.
