Channel bank very steep with patches of consolidated black layer becoming uncovered and layers of decaying vegetation.

The top of the wall had salt resistant higher plants, below, thin Verrucaria maura and Calloplaca marina were common. Pelvetia was very sparse though Fucus spiralis and lower Fucus vesiculosis were common. Animal species were represented by Semibalanus balanoides, Elminius modestus, Littorina littorea and occasional limpets.
