The stone and shell area was covered by loose lying algae and by foliaceous algae attached to stones eg. Polysiphonia sp., Ulva spp., Hypoglossum sp. Bedrock covered by dense Laminaria hyperborea forest, very heavily grazed by Echinus sp. and so with little undergrowth. Some kelp stipes with rich epiphytes but many more or less bare. Below Laminaria hyperborea band and a similarly dense area of Laminaria saccharina with occasional Sacchoriza polyschides amongst it (depth 11.5-9 m) - absent in some areas.

Entire legs looked at. Detailed breakdown of fauna into depth bands available. This is a summary of all the species on the legs. At the top was a band of kelp - Laminaria hyperborea and Laminaria saccharina. Above this a belt of barnacles. Below, mostly covered in Ophiothrix fragilis, Metridium senile and Ciona intestinalis.

Typical infauna included Chaetopterus sp., Mya sp., Myxicola sp. Epifauna of Modiolus sp. with hydroids attached. Ophiopholis sp. abundant amongst Modiolus sp. and cobbles. Lots of mobile fauna: Hyas sp., hermit crabs, Asterias sp. Pomatoceros sp. becoming common from approximately 10 m upwards. Modiolus sp. decreasing shorewards. Infralittoral community: Laminaria saccharina dominant with Chorda filum common, then Ascophyllum nodosum.

At 200m offshore, there were few Modiolus sp. Between about 15-25 m, (60-130 m offshore) Modiolus were abundant and epifauna increased (on the shells) eg. hydroids, barnacles, Pomatoceros sp. and brittlestars. Above 15 m Modiolus sp. declined again. Few foliaceous algae on the Modiolus sp. from approximately 16 m up. Loose lying Laminaria saccharina from 15 m up, dense by 12 m. Only a few attached to small cobbles. Detailed profile (measured) available.
