The seabed was composed of broken bedrock and small boulders (15-50cm) dominated by Laminaria hyperborea forest with small patches of sand between the rocks. A very sparse undergrowth of foliaceous algae was present. The cliff forming the west side of the bay continues underwater and supported large numbers of widely spaced kelp plants with a low undergrowth of bryozoa and red foliaceous algae. Small numbers of Alcoynium digitatum and Caryophyllia smithi were present but the most noticeable feature of this site was the large numbers of large Antedon bifida on the kelp and on the cliff face. |

Gibbula cineria, Asterias rubens, Obelia geniculata were common on the fronds and Echinus esculentus were common amongst the kelp. Pisidia longicornis and Ophiothrix fragilis were found in a Laminaria holdfast. On the pier Ascidiella aspersa and Ascidia mentula were common, as was Delesseria sanguinea and individual Henricia spp. Liocarcinus puber were seen. Caryophyllia smithi and Ascidiella aspersa were fairly common on the boulders especially next to the sediment plain. Occasional Balanus balanus and Clavelina lepadiformis were also present. A fairly heavy sediment cover was present on the rock. |
