Sandstone reef with gullies running east. Many overhangs and fissures. Abundant squirts and bryozoans. Nucella lapilus was present in profusion. Areas of mussels with Sabellaria alveolata, Balanus perforatus, Fucus vesiculosus and Audouinella sp.. Fissures rich and diverse with many sponges , squirts and bryozoans including Pachasmatisma johnstonii, Clavelina lepadiformis, Morchellium argus and Bugula turbinata. Eulalia virdis was abundant amongst the mussels.

Uppersurfaces at the lowest part of the shore were dominated by abundant young Mytilus edulis with either Laminaria saccharina or Fucus serratus. Green opportunistic algae were abundant and there were good numbers of both Nucella lapillus and Asterias rubens. The sand tollerant algae Gracilaria verrucosa was common and sand scoured pools held Polyides rotundus and Ahnfeltia plicata. Audouinella sp was common on rock adjacent to sand.

Sandstone rockpools with sand covering, widespread across the site Laminaria saccharina & Laminaria digitata common in the deeper pools Fucus serratus with various red algae found thoughout. Ulva sp & Sargassum muticum increasingly abundant in the upper shore. Lanice conchilega found in sandy areas, their discarded tubes numerous. Also found were Aslia letheuri, Asterias rubens, Actinia spp and an underboulder community consisting of Psidia longicornis, Cancer pagurus, Psammechinus miliaris and Pholis gunnellus

Sandstone ridges and plateaus protruding from the sand were briefly surveyed. Upper surfaces were dominated by Porphyra sp. Enteromorpha sp., Sabellaria alveolata and Fucus serratus. In the lower eulittoral and sublittoral fringe, Mytilus edulis (with some spat), Fucus serratus, Ulva sp., Laminaria spp. dominated. Various red algae, Balanus perforatus, sponges and hydroids were also present, especially on vertical faces.
