Vertical stone walls around the side of the pond, colonised by dense growth of blue-green algae and Mytilus edulis. Most of the mussels were covered by blue-greens, but upon shells which had become exposed and upon exposed stonework, Aurelia aurita (scyphistomae) had settled.

Firm, shallow, sandy substratum with occasional pebbles supporting Phragmites sp at the eastern end of Fearn Lodge pond. Sticklebacks and mysids were seen amongst filamentous algae while Blidingia sp and Ectocarpus sp growing upon pebbles. Potamogeton sp was present growing from the sediment. Salinity was measured at 10 ppt.

Core samples were taken but there was no noticable biota within the sediment.

The sediment consisted of soft mud approx 20 cm thick, below which was a firm coarse layer of pebbles. The sediment was extensively burrowed by Arenicola marina with patches of dense Zostera marina and Ruppia marina amongst which were dense filamentous algae. Salinity was measured at 28 ppt.
