On vertical and overhanging surfaces, scattered, mostly dead Balanus improvisus (O) with Patella vulgata (F) and, confined to shaded places (perhaps also sheltered from main water flow) Lepidochitona cinerea (R) and Sabellaria alveolata (R). Littorina saxatilis (O) on lower part of belt and ?Conopeum sp. on one vertical surface. In one gully c. 50cm wide x2m deep, Balanus improvisus, Sabellaria alveolata and muddy tube polychaetes were abundant (C) and Urticina eques (C) c. 20 total.

Silted rocks dominated by Fucus serratus with occasional Fucus vesiculosus and rare Ascophyllum nodosum. Littorina obtusata was frequent and Littorina saxatilis abundant only in wet places. Ulva sp. and Chondrus crispus were also present in damp areas. Underboulders provided shelter for large numbers of amphipods and scattered sphaeromid isopods with one Urticina eques. Boulders standing in water and on rock were richer and a separate - see habitat 2.
