This document provides guidance on the capture of data about disabilities and learning difficulties for those who will keep records. A separate document provides advice to planners, implementers and statistical analysts.
The objectives of this guidance are to:
- foster good and common practice in the capture of data in order to:
- ensure that central collectors of disability data can compare and analyse the data to give reliable and credible results
- ensure that data captured is consistent and reliable and can therefore be shared with confidence
- describe issues in a way that applies to all of education, skills and children’s services (ESCS). It is recognised that many sectors (children’s services, early years, schools, FE, HE) may wish to adapt this document to use terminology specific to their sector.
