Description of the contract
The City of Bristol are currently developing a state of the art city wide data visualisation platform which will draw together more that 45,000 sensing devices embedded in street furniture and over 130 data sets made available by the city council which will ultimately strive to support the creative and technical industries in a way that is unique to Bristol.
The platform will enable 360° projection in a dome environment which will be used to visualise city data for both public and business audiences.
This project is a fast paced design exploration to research, understand and develop animated content visualising Bristol urban data that uses this platform in a meaningful and impactful way. We expect these visualisations will make use of existing Bristol city open data and existing visualisations originated by others and therefore we would also consider other data sets that may exist, as well as data and models from other parts of the world where appropriate.
We are looking for a company or companies that will work with the Future Cities Catapult to explore the challenges of using a dome as a data visualisation platform. We expect the successful candidate to develop, led by the Future Cities Catapult, a set of data visualisations that demonstrate both the format of the space as well as providing recommendations and design principles around best practice for showing urban data in an accessible and visually impactful way.
