Description of the contract

Objective The objective of the assignment is to implement MADE. The programme (to be implemented from 2013-2018) is expected to improve the incomes and resilience of poor farmers and small-scale rural entrepreneurs in the Northern Savannah by improving the way that markets work, with a particular focus on agricultural value chains (the full range of activities that bring a crop to the consumer). The intended Impact of this five year programme is to stimulate economic growth and reduce poverty in the Northern Savannah. The Outcome will be improved incomes and resilience of poor farmers and small-scale rural entrepreneurs in northern Ghana. Indicative indicators for this are: a) 77,636 farmers (15% women) and small-scale entrepreneurs record positive change in annual real incomes. b) Agricultural yields in project areas, averaged across selected sectors, increase by 6% year-on-year. c) Average increase in annual real income among affected farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs of £79.90 over project period. d) 48,700 poor smallholder household members climate resilience will have been increased because of MADE. To achieve the impact and outcome, the programme expects to stimulate substantial and transformative change in six market sectors in northern Ghana.
