Census 2011 - Postcode Grid References
This dataset contains grid references for the 2011 frozen postcode boundaries. Each individual postcode polygon holds a grid reference. Grid references have been assigned by NRS, choosing the building nearest to the centre of the most populous part of the postcode, or the grid reference is from Gridlink®.

This dataset contains grid references for the 2011 frozen postcode boundaries. National Records of Scotland (NRS) create a notional boundary around the address content of a live small user postcode using real world features depicted in Ordnance Survey (OS) Mastermap product for definition. Postcode boundaries cover the entire Scottish land mass. Royal Mail (RM) allocate and maintain postcodes for the purposes of delivering mail, but do not produce the postcode boundary dataset, NRS create this. Each individual postcode polygon holds a grid reference. Grid references have been assigned by NRS, choosing the building nearest to the centre of the most populous part of the postcode, or the grid reference is from Gridlink®. Gridlink® is the brand name for the joint approach to creating postcode location products. These products relate unit postcodes to geographic areas such as electoral wards and Primary Care Trusts, and also provide postcode grid references. The Gridlink® consortium comprises the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Ordnance Survey, Royal Mail, the National Records for Scotland and the Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland.
