Boundaries of Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) of Great Britain (excludes offshore areas)

Abstract

This resource contains the spatial dataset of Special Areas of Conservation in Great Britain (excluding offshore areas), last updated in April 2019. The date of the latest update to the data is provided in the file name. Prior to the UK’s exit from the European Union, copies of the UK’s spatial datasets for SPAs and SACs were submitted to the EU, and historically the dataset provided here was a copy of that dataset. Updated versions of the dataset were submitted to the EU in batches called tranches, following changes and updates to the site networks (e.g. designation of new sites or amendments to site boundaries); as well as in response to corrections to the datasets or amendments due to updates to the underlying base maps. The final tranche submission (tranche 60) to the EU was in December 2020. However a dataset may have a date that doesn’t correspond to the most recent tranche update if the data have not changed since a previous tranche update, or if there have been dynamic changes, such as boundary amendments in response to changes to the base maps, which have happened subsequent to a tranche update. This dataset was last updated in April 2019, following the tranche 58 submission. Amendments to the sites details of SACs in Great Britain through subsequent tranche updates (tranches 59 and 60) did not affect this spatial dataset. The CNCBs may periodically update SAC boundaries in advance of JNCC’s updates, and these changes may therefore not be captured in the dataset.
