Lineage

Six sites were provided with between 10 and 50 crayfish traps in 2013, and each site was provided with assistance in the initial set up. Each trap was subsequently emptied once or twice weekly, and the number of crayfish in each trap at each visit was recorded by the site managers. Furthermore the crayfish were categorised into size (small, medium or large) and sex class; females were also classed according to whether or not they were berried. This data was provided to Cefas by each site in the form of scanned paper documents and spreadsheets. This raw data has been transcribed into a database, and supplemented with Environment Agency water temperature data. A subset of the underlying tables, database map, codebook, and a long-format .csv file comprising the full dataset, with temperature and site-identifying information removed has been prepared for publication while the full database used for analysis will be available internally only. Following the closure of the project in 2016 it is expected that some sites will continue to trap and record the crayfish caught, providing Cefas with the additional data. This additional raw data will be stored internally, ready for inclusion in the database if and when resources allow.
