Vegetation cover at 54 UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme sites in southern England, 2008-9
This dataset contains vegetation abundance information from sites in southern England. The data are estimated as percentage cover and flower density of 165 plant species in 1624 vegetation quadrats. The surveys were conducted during 2008 and 2009. The 54 sites are all part of the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme network. The data were collected to compare plant abundance and butterfly population density. The research was funded by the Natural Environment Research Council. Samples were collected using a standardised protocol involving a quadrat of 1 metre square. The data were estimated by a single observer in the field. No subsequent processing was necessary.
