English Local Authority Green belt dataset
Polygon dataset (in WGS84 projection) showing each English local authority's green belt land. Each local authority have digitised these sites in different ways and to different levels of accuracy. DCLG have merged these separate datasets together. This merged dataset is quality assured by DCLG however due to the different methods of digitisation used there may still be discrepancies within the data, therefore these digitised boundaries cannot be considered as definitive. When using this dataset in a GIS system, please ensure that you are using it within a WGS84 data frame/ project. GIS systems will attempt to transform and align different projections, but small inaccuracies and shifts may still occur. Our Open Data Communities service only presents the very latest Greenbelt boundaries. However, our Geoserver service also provide WMS and downloads of previous year's boundary data. This data is released under Ordnance Survey Open data licence: http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-and-government/licensing/using-creating-data-with-os-products/os-opendata.html

The data shows polygons that have been digitised in different manners using different GIS systems (by Local Authorities) and then merged together by DCLG. ArcGIS data management tools have been used to try to get rid of some overlap errors (where correct OS Boundaryline Local Authority boundaries have not been used for digitising process) but some overlap/ slither errors may still exist in the data.
