The Clean Air Act 1993 aims to control emissions of dark smoke from chimneys/stacks and industrial/trade premises. Grit, dust and fumes from non-domestic furnaces are also controlled. The Act also regulates chimney heights and empowers regulators to declare smoke control areas. Part III of the Act creates 'smoke control areas' which restrict the use of certain fuels. If a Company is located within a Smoke Control Area only authorised fuels must be used see The Smoke Control Areas (Authorised Fuels) (England) Regulations 2008 (SI 2008/514)
