Abstract

This report was presented to English Nature (now known as Natural England) to establish (using the methods outlined in Thomas, 1998) monitoring sites and baseline values for sediment character and the species composition of gravel, sand and mixed sediment communities in the Scilly, Fal and Helford Special Areas of Conservation.

Quality and validity

Lineage

Day Grabs were used for collection of infaunal data and a drop-down video was used to get a clear representation of the seabed. Particle Size Analysis (PSA) of the sediment sub-samples was undertaken using dry sieving techniques. IECS laboratory procedures are based on those employed by the FRPB (SEPA East). Quality control procedures follow Rees et al. (1990 and 1993) and Elliott (1994). All procedures are based on standard best laboratory practice.
