Adopted highways is the term used to signify public ways that are maintained at the public expense either by the Local Highway Authority or the Highways Agency. They become adopted through legislation either historically or more recently through legal agreements. Records are indicitive only and areas which are not indicated as as being adopted could in fact be so, and vice versa. Specific queries should be directed to Traffic Management. As of 08/12/2016, this dataset no longer contains roads that are maintained by Highways England.
