Diver core sampling was undertaken at Flame shell (Limaria hains) beds in the vicinity of Otter Spit in Loch Fyne by SNH from 10th - 12th August 2015. Sampling was undertaken at the Loch Fyne and Loch Goil Nature Conservation MPA because they support a wide range of protected features, including those with a 'Recover' conservation objective. Replicate core samples were collected by divers along five 25m transects using a standard diver core. 28 infaunal samples were collected on this survey, but no PSA samples were taken. The position of each transect and sample replicate station were recorded. In addition to the collection of infaunal samples, divers assessed the extent of the flame shell bed and permanent transects were established in five locations to enable relocation of the stations. Precision Marine Survey Ltd. were commissioned by SNH to undertake faunal analysis of the samples. Laboratory processing methodologies were based on best practice and followed NMBAQC guidelines.

Diver core samples were collected from the Limaria bed in Loch Fyne from the 10th to the 12th of August 2015 at 6.8m to 10.7m BCD. Core samples were collected by divers along five 25 m transects at Otter Sound using a standard diver core (110 mm diameter cores driven in to 20 cm depth of sediment). Three permanent transect markers were hammered into the seabed at the start, middle and end of the transects. The posts were marked with 1, 2 and 3 horizontal black stripes to represent their position along the transect. Six replicate core samples were taken at intervals along the transects (at 2.75, 6.75, 10.75, 14.75, 18.75 and 22.75 m) unless core lids were broken at the surface in which case less replicates were used. A total of 28 core samples were collected from Flame shell (Limaria hains) beds in Loch Fyne. In addition to the core samples, divers carried out cell frequency counts of Limaria nest material from 0.25 m2 quadrats at 1 m intervals along the transects. Divers also estimated Limaria nest percentage cover at eight spot dives. All laboratory methodologies were based on best practice and Precision Marine Survey Limited is a member of the National Marine Biological and Analytical Quality Control scheme (NMBAQC).
