UK Marine Gazetteer of Sea Features

Abstract

A GIS dataset consisting of polygons representing sea features around the UK from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO). There are 3071 features in total, for example, "Rockall Bank", "Laggan Bay", "Jane Macrae Rocks" and "Sound of Harris". These data are included in the merged dataset 'MEDIN Gazetteer of Marine Points of Interest'.

Lineage

This dataset is a modified version of one provided by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) created from Electonic Navigational Charts and was used as an input into the 'MEDIN Gazetteer of Marine Points of Interest'. Polygon features have been captured from the MTS dataset (small scale: 1: 150,000 and smaller in offshore and oceanic waters). The recommended zoom level to view the features in GIS is 1:10,000.
