A survey of the intertidal area of SSSI at Loch Moidart, Ardnamurchan, for NCC Scotland, particularly the area likely to be affected by a proposed mussel farm development. The notification of this site includes tidal mudflats. The survey concentrates mainly on algal communities which are described. Only superficial observations of animals were possible. Conclusion: the North Channel is by far the richest of the sites surveyed, but still has poor flora compared with an open coast site. No rare species were found. The area as a whole is interesting, comprising a saltmarsh adjoining a typical sealoch habitat, with extensive mudflats culminating in estuarine algal communities. The area with the adjoining SSSI forms an unspoilt natural habitat of scientific interest and natural beauty.
