Lineage

"The Fal and Helford sits on the southern coast of Cornwall and was nominated as a candidate Special Area of Conservation to the European Commission in1996 for the wide range of marine communities the Ria system encompasses. Intertidal mudflats and sand flats are one of several interest features of the site and as well as being features of the SAC, they are also designated features of three of the four component SSSIs of the SAC, namely; Malpas Estuary SSSI, Upper Fal Estuary and Woods SSSI and the Lower Fal & Helford Intertidal SSSI. Natural England has a duty to monitor and assess the condition of the intertidal features in order to report on the conservation status of the mudflats and sandflats habitats once every six years. This survey encompasses the data from the Phase II component of the condition assessment which was carried out by Ecospan Environmental Ltd on behalf of Natural England."
