Abstract

FSP survey of sole and plaice in ICES Divisions VIIf&g in the eastern Celtic Sea. The survey took place in February 2005 on FV Nellie, a commercial beam trawler. Sixty four hauls using twin 4-metre beams and80 mm mesh cod-ends were made off the north coasts of Cornwall and Devon and off the Bristol Channel.

Lineage

FSP Programme 10, a survey of sole and plaice in ICES Divisions VIIf and VIIg in the eastern Celtic Sea, carried out in February 2005. The programme used the commercial beam trawler FV Nellie for 13 days between 15 and 27 February 2005. All sole and plaice were measured and classified as ‘discarded’ or ‘retained’ according to advice from the fishing crew. Otoliths from samples of sole were taken to determine the age of the fish, and to allow the age composition of the catches to be calculated.
