Cheshire Historic Environment Record: Scheduled Monuments Point
English Heritage Scheduled Monuments
Archaeological sites and monuments of national importance are designated as Scheduled Monuments under Part l of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. They are listed in a schedule maintained by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, advised by English Heritage. Notifications of new scheduling are issued by English Heritage as and when a site is added to the Schedule. This dataset is updated by the Cheshire Historic Environment Record as soon as possible after the notification is received. Indicates the central point of a Scheduled Monument polygon. This is particularly useful when Scheduled Monuments need to be depicted on maps at scales in excess of 1:10,000, as smaller scheduled areas, such as cross bases, are often no longer visible at large scales. Each feature contains within its entry in the attribute table hyperlinks for use with ArcGIS and WebGIS to the designation record of that asset published on Revealing Cheshire's Past, an online version of the HER database which makes a subset of the HER data available online.
