Scottish Remote Sensing Index
The Scottish Remote Sensing Index (SRSI) is a collaboration between Scottish public sector organisations to public information about the remote sensing data they hold. For each remote sensed dataset, the spatial extent is captured, along with 12 attributes, including the sensor type, spatial resolution, and contact details of the data custodian. The licence status attribute can be used to filter the dataset to find openly available data.

The full attributes and their description are as follows: - Title - Name of dataset in the format: Sensor – survey – survey part - Brief_description - Description of the survey and data captured and optionally for what purpose - Sensor - LiDAR, RADAR, RGB, CIR, multispectral, hyperspectral etc. - Spatial_resolution - Resolution in metres - Capture_status - Whether the data has been captured or is planned - Capture_date - Start and end date of imagery capture – may be an exact date or by year for a larger capture programme (or a planned capture date). Should be in format YYYY-MM-DD with ‘/’ dividing from and to dates. If required HH:MM:SS can be used as well with ‘T’ separating the two parts. - Data_format - The format(s) the data will be made available in. - Licence_status - Licensing flag. -Green = available to share openly, i.e. open or non-commercial gov’t. -Yellow = available to share but limitations exist. -Red = Only available within custodian organisation - Licence_details - Copyright and licensing information. - Open Government Licence - Non-Commercial Government Licence - Other arrangement - Data_originator - Who captured the data - Data_custodian - Who owns the data – organisation and e-mail address. - Metadata_link - Metadata link, if this is available. Usually the SSDI file identifier.

The Scottish Remote Sensing Index was developed by the Scottish Government remote sensing working group in 2016. The aim of the index is to make remote sensing data within public sector organisations discoverable to other organisations and the public. The index was originally developed by SNH, and redrafted by the remote sensing group to refine the attributes. Organisations submitted their contributions to Scottish Government, who compiled the dataset. The organisations who contributed were: Scottish Government, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Environment Protection Agency and Forestry Commission Scotland.
