Overview of Linked Data
Across Government over the last ten years there has been a growing realisation to the power of Linked Data for exposing, sharing, and connecting pieces of data and information using uniform resource identifiers (URI)
Linked Data forms a key component of both the Open Data White Paper and the Government ITC Strategy and the developing Open Standards framework. It is being used widely across the public and private sectors to build an online information architecture. Linked Data is the underpinning technology that enables many of the new ways of working that we are beginning to see across government.
Linked data approaches across the public sector have over the last 12 months begun to move from pilots to proven business as usual. The blog’s from those in the UK’s Linked Data Community illustrate the progress that has been made.
We will be looking to support this work with a continually expanded and refreshed series of slides and videos providing an overview of Linked Data from different perspectives. If you would like to recommend the next one in this series or have a concept or idea that you would like to share please provide a comment or let us know via @UKGovLD.
