Sea Levels around UK,Altitude above Sea Level

With sea levels predicted to rise and flooding becoming a major problem , it would be nice to have a map showing(via postcode) each district and how much above sea level (high-low-mean)it is.
That way we could all make decisions where to live based on our own ideas of how important sea levels are potential of future flooding.

No wrecks...

Good idea; I'd like to be able to query a map to show what effect a given level of sea rise would have (innundation, coast line change etc).

Altitude above sea level

I second the request made by Steve Fitzgerald for a map giving (via postcode) an ACCURATE level above sea level (high-low-mean). That would be very useful when deciding where to live. I've tried Google Earth without success, also http://www.earthtools.org/ (you have to move the MAP until the cross is in the relevant place), which gave me some indication, but I'm not sure how accurate it is.

Altitude above sea level

I have found earthtools to be inaccurate. It shows ground to be 8 metres above sea level, which may be right, but also shows ground 100 yards away which is obviously lower by as much as two metres, to be 9 metres above sea level.

Sea Levels around UK,Altitude above Sea Level

I agree the information should be available; I would go further and ask that historic data should be available so that not only the rsk to land on the coast can be reckoned but the potential risk to places in land can be assessed. Higher seas and coastal erosion will change rivers and flood plains.

recurrent local flooding

Heavy rain causes fields to flood around many streams & rivers.

Increases in sea level will affect many waterways (backing up).

A contour map of the UK and the height of waterway surfaces above sea level would be most interesting with sliding controls linked to the sea level.

Also tidal influences would be a neat addition.
