Online virtual garden where plants grow according to actual weather data in a given location
My Virtual garden aims to digitize all plant life on the planet by simulating plants' growth and decay using the latest 3D computer graphics and gaming technologies. The digital plants will then be made to respond to prevailing weather conditions using regularly updated meteorological data.
Creating my virtual garden is a long term project that requires an unprecedented collaboration of experts from a range of scientific disciplines including botany, meteorology, geology, entomology and climatology, as well as computer graphics scientists. It will be a massive data gathering exercise, requiring thousands of programmers and large data farms.
Its purpose
The main purpose is to create an attractive, personal space on the Web for subscribers, which can be used simply as an entertaining application, or as a portal to the subscribers' own place in the cloud.
While it is primarily targeted at the general public, the website would also be of value to scientists such as botanists, meteorologists, geologists and climatologists by providing an unprecedented collaboration not only between these disciplines, but also between them and computer graphics experts.
The website would spread awareness and respect for nature, climate and climate change, and give people who can’t afford a real garden the chance to enjoy some of the pleasures of gardening.
