Literacy levels by area

I would like to see an app making use of data on literacy levels (stratified by age) in the UK and mapping these to areas using google maps.

Hi Dunc,

I quite like your idea and would be quite interested in putting something together. I have worked with Local Government to put together online literacy resources the main project being http://www.literacyassessment.co.uk and I think real time data from this could maybe even be included in what you propose as schools need to choose their LEA at login for that app.

Can you please take a look here at some of the related data sets available :

I can see foundation stage and adult literacy sets but there does not seem to be much in between.

Do you have a recommended data set ?

Would you be interested in primary, secondary or adult literacy levels ?

Also - I seem to remember Michael Gove talking about a national literacy test for 6 year olds (to include non-words !!) - I assume this data will soon be availabe here and have setup a google alert for as soon as it is.
