Is it possible to access cctv footage taken of me in a wilkinson store in 2009?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if it is possible to access some footage of me entering a wilkinson store in nottingham in Jan 09. I need to find out what day and time I actually entered the store as this information is very important. If it is possible to access such information, could you tell me how to do so, what process do I need to take.

Any information will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know the answer but if it is a privately owned CCTV camera (by Wilkinsons or by a shopping precinct) you would have to approach the owners.  They may not keep footage for very long.  If it is a publicly owned camera (which one on a lamp post in a street would probably be) then it might be the local council, say.

There is a thread lower down in the Forum area on accessing CCTV footage and it is probably worth you looking at that.  The point is made there that allowing access for anyone to any CCTV foortage could be rather scary.  It is usually the case that CCTV of you would also contain CCTV of other people, so you might be deemed to be invading the privacy of others.  Whoever owns the footage, you will probably have to make a really good case.

I seriously doubt that the owners are going to dig through their tapes just to find that for you, unless you can give them a good reason.  They consider that information private, and usually will only share that with the police.

I highly doubt they will keep CCTV footage for that long. There's no harm asking Wilkinsons though.

Many of the street CCTV camers are live on internet but I don't think any  store is live on internet.

Just imagine how much information they would have to store...

BTW. Hi all

I think the owner of the CCTV camera will own the copyright of the film/photography so the may not have to show you it. Just like celebrities can't remove or rescind some photos taken of them. Welcome to the celebrity lifestyle I suppose...

CCTV footage is generally stored for 30 days, afterwhich it is overwritten. Of course this is all subject to DVR GB capacity. I would think you stand little or no chance of obtaining any footage now.

In this case, those CCTV have just used for securiy problem when bad things happened. That maybe a robbery or investigation of relation accident, ect. And they've just viewed by police in these case. So, if everything be ok, those record will be saved for a couple time like 1 month or haft of year, it depend on region's policy, then be deleted. Resource for saving those data is limited, you know.

The ico recommendation is this:

Organisations should have a retention policy. They should only keep the images for as long as necessary to meet the purpose of recording them.

So, really I'd imagine they would have disposed with the footage. The other problem is that you can't tell them when you were entering the store, which really is no good for the controller - you have to be specific.
