Pension Credit early estimates

An early estimate of the number of individuals and households receiving Pension Credit and the average amount in payment broken down by payment type. Recipients are those people who claim PC either on behalf of themselves or on behalf of a household. This number is equal to the number of households in receipt of PC. Therefore each couple benefit unit is counted as two individual beneficiaries.

Precision	It is important to note that the methodology for producing early estimates is slightly different to that of the published Work and Pensions Longitudinal Study (WPLS) figures. The published WPLS figures are more accurate but take longer to produce because of 'retrospection'. This allows the WPLS figures to reflect claim commencements and terminations which are entered on the system after the reference date.
