Stolen Vehicle Lists
Problem: NPIA currently hold a list of reported stolen vehicles on the Police National Computer. This list can be searched by certain companies, but is not currently available to the general public. Since all these companies charge to check if a vehicle is reported stolen prospective car buyers cannot do so without payment to a third party.
Solution: Regular publication of the stolen vehicles list (including VIN and registration number) on data.gov.uk. The data could also include contact details for the police force which added the vehicle.
Proposal: Provide a free service to the public to allow prospective car buyers to check if a car they wish to purchase is stolen. This would make it more difficult to resell stolen vehicles and help reduce vehicle crime. The service could also feed back to the police to allow buyers to report stolen vehicles if they are encountered - aiding in the recovery of such vehicles.

Like any any brilliant proposal by the public the Government will not entertain this idea because it appears the government itself WANTS to encourage GROWTH of any industry that milks the public !! Cut police fundeing, send our troops to die in afghnistan, prop up foreign banks and eurozone bankrupt countries,

it would be a brilliant idea if it worked.
i've spent the last 1/4 hr registering, going back and forth to my e-mail for a password, wich it turns out i choose anyway.
all i want to do is check the reg of a vehicle that's been abandoned on private land, to see if it's stolen. if it was, i would then inform the police, because i know they would do sod all unless it's obstructing the highway.
so anyway, where's, or how do i get to, the little box that i can type the reg of a vehicle into to check....?????
