Local Data Panel

Professor Nigel Shadbolt, Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Deputy Head (Research) of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton is chairing a panel of experts to oversee the release of this local data. The Local Public Data Panel will champion the release of local public data and information sharing, accelerate progress in agreeing common standards for data released into the public sphere, and for making local public services better understood and more accessible.

Publishing itemised local authority expenditure - advice for comment

The Prime Minister and CLG Ministers wish to see local authorities publish granular local spending data. The Public Sector Transparency Board has been set up to drive an open data agenda. The Prime Minister has made a specific commitment that new items of local government spending over £500 be published on a council-by-council basis from January 2011. http://www.number10.gov.uk/news/statements-and-articles/2010/05/letter-t... Many local authorities also wish to publish such data.

May local election results available as open data

One of the Panel's members, Chris Taggart of OpenlyLocal.com, has been working hard on a new project to make May local election results available as open data. The Open Election project offers an opportunity to substantially enhance public access to local election results data, allowing it to be easily identified and reused within a variety of contexts.
