2011 Recreation: Important areas for diving around Grampian

Abstract

In order to better understand the nature, extent and intensity of interactions amongst coastal users, Marine Scotland asked the Local Coastal Partnerships to collect spatial data not already represented in national datasets. This map shows areas important areas for diving around Grampian. It was created by the East Grampian Local Coastal Partnership, and covers the area of sea out to 12 miles. The source was from seasearch and represents the whole of the Grampian Region. There are other reasons for going diving which have not been captured and so the data set is incomplete.

This dataset was collected by the East Grampian Coastal Partnership who interviewed one Seasearch leader and mapped the location of the visited sites directly into UDIG GIS with the contributor. No social or economic questions were asked. The data was then 'cleansed' by Marine Atlas Consultants (commissioned by the Scottish Coastal Forum) - the projection was changed from BNG to WGS86, a table was attributed retrospectively with the interviewer to ensure it complies with Quality Assurance SOPs, MEDIN data standards (as best as possible), and confidence levels assigned using criteria based on "MMO checklist to assess the quality of evidence". This best practice is detailed in a final report to the EGCP and the SCF.
