There is very little that

There is very little that need be hidden - even contracts under negotiation could be public since it would result in finer margins.

The approach should be to get as much data out there as quickly as possible.

The main priority should be getting the public capable of criticizing detailed spending decisions.

Improving how MPs and Lords manage the information deluge

I feel that a real area for implementing the benefits of technology in Govt is in how our elected representatives manage the deluge of unstructured information (policy documents, legal judgements, guidelines, representations from citizens and lobbyists).

The odd iPad has made its way into the Commons chamber but most MPs seem to be drowning in wads of paper.

I applaud the current steps forward. http://www.v3.co.uk/v3-uk/news/2037521/tweeting-ipad-set-green-light-inside-house-commons and hear that the House of Lords Comms Committee has rolled out iPads for some of its members.

The intuitive UI of the iPad is ideally suited to managing and switching between lots of unstructured information sets.

So more data on how many MPs/Lords/Committees are using technological tools (dashboards, knowledge management systems and better UIs) would be great.
